specify hostname with domain

Hello,

Just curious in terms of naming the host when installing the OS (centos).

Does it matter if you specify the domain, ie myser.test.com?

What benefits in terms of specifying the domain in a Windows structure? Sorry if this is a newbie question.

The concept of a domain name (or fully qualified domain name) such as host.example.com is an entirely separate concept from the windows domain as used in primary domain controllers or active domains. Windows uses both.

Many server functions will expect a fqdn, for example mail servers, to function properly.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Server_domain

I have always put the fully qualify name. It is good practice.
