sound works in KDE but not GNOME???

Can someone please tell me why my sound card works in the KDE environment but not the GNOME?

Please help me out here b/c i like the GNOME so much more than the KDE but i need sound.

1. Double click the "Start Here" icon on the desktop.
2. Double click the "Preferences" icon.
3. Double click the "Sound" icon.
4. Put a check in the box next to "Enable Sound Server Startup".
5. If you like, you can enable "Sound Events" here also...but I warn you, the sound events are super cheeshy and quite annoying! But they are a good way to test that your sound is up and running.
6. Click "Close".
7. Voila!!!

nope. not working. i think it may be my sound card. Its a typicall Sound Blaster but for some reason its not working. I might try using a different card unless someone can give me some other suggestions????
