setting up VNC server on RHEL WS 3

Greetings,

I am a complete newbie to the Red Hat Linux world so please bare with me on this question

I want to connect to a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation 3 computer from a Windows 2k Pro machine using VNC. The RHEL WS 3 computer would be running the VNC server.

It appears that RHEL WS 3 already comes with a VNC server installed and running but how do i view the GUI configuration screen for the VNC server?

Please be detailed in your response because, like i said, i'm new to the Linux world

Thank you for your time,

Nick

I don't know about redhat enterprise, but on old redhat and fedora, an example procedure would be as follows: Start the first instance of your vnc server.
Open up a terminal and type:
vncserver
It will ask you to set a password at this time. This will be the password you will use to connect to the server. Type in your password. Press enter. Type it again for conformation when it asks you to. At this time, it should tell you what you call to connect from the viewer in windows. Usually by default it will be someting like starting service on 'desktop' on display 1. So that means you would call it from the viewer like
desktop:1
If you want a full display of your desktop, you need to edit a file called
xstartup. It is located in a hidden folder in your home folder called .vnc
You could do this from a terminal by
cd .vnc
vi xstartup
It will tell you to uncomment two lines to accomplish what you need.
Press the escape button a couple times, then type :x and press enter. Restart your computer, then start up your vnc server by opening up a terminal and typing
vncserver
Let me know if you need futher assistance.
