SD Cards / USB Cameras

How do I do to configure and to mount, a SD Card or my USB Camera on RedHat? I m using the same steps that I use in Mandrake, and this doesnt work.

You should be able to do it via a simple:
Type (as root):
tail -f /var/log/messages
Plug in the device and watch for information regarding the 'sd' that it becomes. Likely it will be /dev/sda1 From there:
CTRL + C
to stop tail, and then:
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/sdcard

Similarly for the camera, and be sure that the directory you are mounting to exists ;)

Cool

But the problem is it ! It doesnt work. But in SUSE and Mandrake it works,

(My PC is a LapTop Thoshiba 6100, with a SD Card Reader. I tried to read the Cam on USB and the Card on CardReader, using mount on "/dev/sd" devices, but in RedHat it doesnt work).

This helpded me!

Thanks Master C for unlocking the usb mystery.

I used your tip to successfully mount my Toshiba PDR-M25 digital camera using the USB cable under RedHat9

the part that threw me was that I hadn't created the directory under /mnt yet. Once I re-read your post I caught the mistake.

Now the trick is to get the thing to automagically mount whenever its plugged in, and put a link on the desktop like the OS does when a CD is inserted!

thankyou!

Cool

leiavoia 10-01-2003 01:06 AM

when i run

tail -f /var/log/messages

i get these last few lines when my new digicam is turned on:

Sep 30 22:58:02 levbox kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:02.1-2, assigned address 9
Sep 30 22:58:02 levbox kernel: usb.c: USB device 9 (vend/prod 0x4a9/0x3084) is not claimed by any active driver.
Sep 30 22:58:06 levbox /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: ... no modules for USB product 4a9/3084/1
Sep 30 22:58:20 levbox kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 00:02.1-2 address 9

lsmod says i have

usb-storage
usb-ohci
usbvnet_i
usbcore

loaded. that should do it. does this mean that the camera is not supported in the drivers or that some drivers are not loaded (or something else?).

thanks for any help

Cool

I have been having similiar probs. My main issue is that the mount command tells me to specify the filesystem type.

When i specify it as ntfs i get

[root@fedora mnt]# mount -t ntfs /dev/hde /mnt/sdcard
mount: unknown filesystem type 'ntfs'
[root@fedora mnt]#

And when I specify vfat which I believe is for fat file systems i get

[root@fedora mnt]# mount -t vfat /dev/hde /mnt/sdcard
mount: /dev/hde: can't read superblock
[root@fedora mnt]#

Any help would be appreciated!

Chris
