Save root filesystem


Hi,
How can I save the root filestem on an external
device (usb disk for example).

What do you mean by "save the root filesystem"? Do you mean save the partition table? Save everything on the drive? Save the entire drive - contents and partition table?

depending on what you want to do, you'll most likely want to boot off a CD distro (like Knoppix on Ubuntu), then mount both drives & eitehr rsync, cp -pr, tar, or dd the data from one to the other - again, depending on what you want to do.
