Run command on boot

I want to run a specific program on boot that is owned by root so it can't be shut down by other users. I know I can have the command be run on Xwindows (by .Xinit or something like that)startup, but sometimes I don't want Xwindows to start. Where is the config file I have to edit?

(I did search for a topic about this, but I can't get the answer I need... The closest I could get was starting it with X)

Thanks

It is probably easiest to the command at the end of your "rc.local" file.
