rpm -qa command hangs

I don't know what's wrong with my package configuration.

When i issue "rpm -qa" command to list all the packages, it shows only some packages and then stop there as if it is trying to find other packages. It seems hang.

Also in graphical mode, when i start the package add/remove program, there is a small dialog showing a progress bar. that dialog also hangs.

So what's wrong ?

You can try

rpm --nosignature -qa

Yes, it works now.

So what is package signature? why we need signature?

Does it mean that my problem above just because of some of my packages signature are missing?

Please tell me what is signature?

Which version of RPM and which version of Red Hat?

rpm -q rpm
cat /etc/redhat-release

Will rpm -q even run?
