RHES 4 new PPD file does not show up as a driver option through printconf.

Hi all,
I am trying to setup some lanier printers. I have located the .PPD files and uploaded them to the /usr/share/cups/model directory as .gz files. I then stopped/started cups. I'm setting these up remotely so I'm using printconf character interface to configure printers. When i go to setup the printer I do not see the lanier ppd files as a selection.

I can however set them up via the command line.

Am i missing a step in the setup of new PPD files that is keeping them from being seen in printconf?

thanks for any help..

I've found out that the version of cups that I am running will not allow the include of other PPD files. I need to upgrade to CUPS 1.2 as a minimum. Then I can put PPD files in /usr/share/cups/model and they will be recognized.
