RHEL5 with RHN update PHP from currently available to later version issues?

I'm running Moodle 1.9.5+ on a RHEL5 box.

Moodle.org say Moodle 2 will need PHP 5.2.8. but RHN is offering PHP 5.1.6.

If I yum install PHP 5.2.8 (or later) will it put rpms and/or RHN out of kilter?

Also, does anyone know what moodle.org mean by the Zip PHP extension, which is also a requirement for Moodle2? I'm wondering if it's just something like php-zip or if I have to recompile PHP to use the zzip lib.

The point of yum is to take care of dependencies, so I wouldn't worry about that.
The qn is whether PHP 5.2.8 is avail for your version of RHEL. You'll have to check the repo.
As for ZIP, try asking Moodle.
You also need to find out what Moodle need from PHP 5.2.8. RHEL often keep the orig version num, but backport various fixes from newer ones.
