RHEL5 server fails to install x86_64 but 32bit okay?
Dear Linux community,
We have recently purchased a new Supermicro 1021m-T2RB server(H8DMR-i2 Mobo), running dual Opteron 2347's, 2 gigs of mem, 2 SATA disks... nothing too special.
However, the problem lies in that when I attempt to install RHEL5 x86_64, anaconda begins to load and then I get a spontaneous system restart. Even more interesting is that the 32bit version of the OS loads fine.
First, I would be grateful to know if anyone has any solutions as to how to get the 64bit version to load, since we will be performing chemical structure analysis, and the labor intensive programs perform much better in that environment compared to i386.
Second, are workarounds possible? If the OS is 32bit, might I get my software to perform with 64bit functionality?
Thank you for your time in this matter, as I am by far a true administrator as I am a scientist first.

Bank0:0 would probably refer to memory errors, not CPU
If the vendor diags are crap (not a surprise) try swapping memory around, keep a log of what moved to where and try again. Try also with a smaller OS to see if the error occurs again, if so, its not RedHat its the hardware.
