RHEL version information


Kindly tell me Red Hat 3.4.4-2 and Red Hat 4 are same ????

Hello,

No. Both are different. As the major version change is there, there are lot of changes.

Please refer "http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release-notes/as-x86/" for more details regarding the things introduced in RHEL 4 than RHEL 3.

" 3.4.4 " tells this : gcc-3.4.4 in e.g. Redhat EL 4.2

( Redhat EL 4.8 has gcc-3.4.6 ).

The proof way to know your version, please use this command:
cat /etc/redhat-release
