Did you install the Gnome environment during the install process?
Also if you have RHEL5 you should call RedHat for help because you are paying for it.
I wonder why you couldnt install in graphical mode with your DV5 which is a newer model. Try installing all over again and look for clues as to why graphical doesn't work.

Hi thiyagarajancs, welcome to LQ forums.

@rkski: I had 1-2 instances where GUI installation is not possible. It happens sometimes, do not know why.

@thiyagarajancs: Are you installing 5.3 or 5.4? Can you try other version from one you used?
Please post that internal error that shows when you run startx. Log of the error should be in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
Pleas post it at http://pastebin.com/ and give us the link so we can look what is happening.

Please:

1. post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
2. Tell us your exact version of distro: RHEL 5.3? 5.4?

Your Laptop has one of the Intel graphic chip.

You can use WinSCP to access your Linux from Windows and retrieve the necessary files so you can post them here.
