RHEL 5.1 Server - automount stopped working

I have a RHEL 5.1 server that exports a filesystem to three other RHEL 5.1 servers. These three servers access this filesystem via automount. Suddenly the filesystem cannot be automounted, while it can manually be mounted via the mount command. There's been no explicit change to the /etc/exports file. There's been no explicit change to the /etc/auto... files. Automount works for another fs exported from another (unrelated) computer. I've restarted the nfs and autofs services. I am running SELinux in passive mode. No diagnostic messages are produced /var/log/messages. The only possible inadvertent change could be from RH distributed maintenance.

Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions and guidance that you may offer.

Mike

Question Re: automount stopped working

I don't know if this is a circumvention or a resolution.

Original /etc/auto.master (that, as described, was working, then failed):
/misc /etc/auto.misc
/net -hosts
/- auto.direct
/home auto.home
+auto.master

Current /etc/uto.master (that is currently working):
/misc /etc/auto.misc
/net -hosts
/- /etc/auto.direct
/home auto.home
+auto.master

Note the explicit definition of auto.direct. Note that auto.home is unchanged, worked before, and continues to work.

Why this fixed the problem when auto.master explicitly defines the default location auto.direct still remains a mystery to me. Any ideas?

Mike
