RH9 built-in NIC probelm...please help!!

this is my first post here, as i am such a noob to linux (I just installed rh 9 last night...first experience ever w/ linux).

anyways, i am using an Abit NF7-S rev2.0 mobo, which has integrated NIC (made by nvidia, i believe). when i go to the internet connection wizard thingy, it shows wth0, but it shows it as inactive. when i try to activate it, it says that it cannot be found. if anyone can shed some light on this problem for me, i would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

I'd suggest you install the nvidia drivers for the ethernet - go to
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.0-0261
and download and install the appropriate rpm: (NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.rh90up_2.4.20_6.athlon.rpm). That should allow you to activate the NIC. Check the readme as well - useful stuff!

thank you. i have that exact file burned on a cd, and i double clicked on it, and it said it was installed?! yet nothing internet wise or recognizing the eth0. where do i go to type in commands and stuff to the kernel like it shows in that readme file? maybe i didn't fully install them

To type in commands, open up a terminal - go to the start menu (down in the bottom left, same as where you'd go in Windows), then System, and then choose terminal (the bottom option if I remember right). I hope this helps - if not, let us know :-)

ok, i put in the cd, and it automatically brought up the contgents. i right-clicked the package, and then selected 'install package'. it installed the drivers (i assume, since it went through all that 'installing' stuff). but when i click on mozilla, it still says theres no connection. i went to the internet configuration wizard, and tried to actyivate eth0, but it said again that it isnt present. i went under the DNS tab i believe and it has a generic name for the internet host. do i havew to manually enter my local isp address and stuff? i never had to do that before, so i dont even know what it is. what am i doing wrong?
