RH9 and Real Player 8

Hello to all,
I have installed RealPlayer8 in RH9 using both RPM and BIN installs. Both installs give a segmentation fault when they are lauched. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Hi,
you better use real player 9 , that works better with RH9. But there is no plugin.
Real player 8 doesn't work with NPTL and needs $LD_ASSUME_KERNEL be set appropriately as mentioned in the release notes of Shrike.

You will find real player 9 here :

http://hubi.oj.pl/linux/programy/RealPlayer/

and here :

http://realforum.real.com/cgi-bin/un...collapsed&sb=5

Good luck, and google for more information. You will find a lot about Real Player and Redhat 9.

RP9 does not play mpeg, avi, etc ..,
What kind of file do you try to play ?
When I click on the.ram file,

it asks me to open with realplayer (I configure like this in Mozilla).

Sorry, but you will have to browse RH9 mailing list. Sure this problem has been discussed many times.

I remember I got the same problem segmentation fault before on realplayer8.

The problem is related to the program path. Try to change the realplayer8 program path to /usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay.

vi /etc/X11/applnk/Multimedia/RealPlayer8.desktop
Exec=/usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay

Hope it help

I have installed rp9 but when I go to run it the computer just sits.... I would like to get rid of all rp files and retry, but can't figure out how.

ia64processor 09-10-2003 11:10 PM

It is pretty easy to remove the program, check the installation program, it should include readme file or uninstall script... I'm quite certain as I did uninstall before.

linuXBOX 09-10-2003 11:15 PM

I'll give it a shot *wink*

ia64processor 09-11-2003 01:54 AM

The version I installed is RealPlayer8-8.0.3.412-5.rpm
As long as you modified the program path I mentioned previously, it would be alright.

linuXBOX 09-11-2003 02:06 AM

Hmmm, no, in fact i'm having a (expletive deleted) of a time trying to get realplay off my system! If I try to install rp8, it reports it is already installed. If I try 'rpm -q rp8' it says cannot find or not installed. So it is installed but not for me? Argggh!

ia64processor 09-11-2003 02:21 AM

Confirm with this command please:
rpm -qa | grep -i 'realplayer'

Remove the package:
rpm -e RealPlayer8-8.0.3.412-5

linuXBOX 09-11-2003 02:31 AM

Ok, well now it's stuck in the terminal...

ia64processor 09-11-2003 02:43 AM

Any error msg?

linuXBOX 09-11-2003 02:47 AM

nope just sits at the next line with the blinking blip... system monitor states process is sleeping...
