RH 9 install hang at boot: possible raid driver issue

I'm installing redhat 9 from the shrike-i386 isos from ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/9/en/iso/i386/ on an Athlon 1Ghz machine. I have tried the graphical and text modes, and for both, the computer hangs shortly after you start the install. These are the last two lines.

TTYS0 at 0x02f8 (IRQ=4) is a 16550A \\serial port 1 in bios
TTYS1 at 0x02f8 (IRQ =3) is a 16550A \\serial port 2 in bios

It just hangs there, until you power down. I let it sit for about an hour before turning off the machine once.

It also hangs at the same spot with a linux noprobe

Anyone know what's going on?

This is on an ASUS a7v133 (Promise ata100/raid) Motherboard.

Win2k installs fine with this setup. But when I'm installing I have to install the 3rd party ata100 drivers that came from the mobo cd. The cd also has RH 6.1 and 6.2 ".pat " files.

Anyone know how to tell RH installer to use one of those? and can I use the old ".pat" files with RH 9?

Hello.

I've installed RH9.0 on a machine using a Promise ATA RAID card with no probs.

It's a weird error you are getting, have you tried disabling your serial ports in the BIOS? Just to test if it is that, cuz that's what the TTYSx is.

If you do have the IDE RAID setup, you'll need to install the drivers during your linux install. I downloaded the latest ones from www.promise.com

To install the drivers at install time, when you boot of RH CD1, type in linux dd at the first prompt you get after booting off the cd.

You'll need to extract the drivers onto a floppy and stick it in your machine.

Good luck
