RH 9 & photos from Gimp to hpDeskjet 5550

I'm not able to get the Gimp to print anything, but particularly would like it to print my photos using my hp Deskjet 5550. gThumb will print photos, all apps will print but Gimp will not. I have usr/share/doc/gimp-print-4.2.4
installed. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks:confused:

What are your printer settings in Gimp?

I have the 5550 as well, and can print to it, although I have not quite managed to get the print sizes exactly right.

Thank you Steve! At last, someone using Gimp, Redhat , and the 5550.
Which settings, where ? I ask a given picture to print, Gimp goes through its cycle and nothing happens. I have Gimp set to print using the hp settings from the hp website for the 5550. The 900 series driver; and this command "lp -s -dPRINTER -oraw" or " lp -s -dprinter -oraw", which is how my 5550 command is setup. One is usb and the other is parallel , which shouldn't matter to the Gimp as it doesn't to any other program.

I'm running Debian, but I don't think that is too important. Your print commands in Gimp are wrong, I think. Here is what I have set up:

The print command in Gimp is: lp -s -dhpdj5550

I also used the driver that I found here

Hopefully that will help you.

BTW.

usr/share/doc/gimp-print-4.2.4
refers to the DOCS, not the drivers, as I understand it, but does get the same info accross ;) ;)

The link you gave is for a search on Google for "http". Was that the link you meant?

Sorry about that, I see they got munged: if you look at the link, you will see that there is an extra 'http' attached.

Here they are, again:

You may also find something useful here, I didn't:

Hope you have some success!

I tried the #lp -s -dhpdj5550 command, but no response.

Thanks Steve. I do use that hpijs driver. Maybe my gimp-print plugin isn't installed properly.

You're welcome. I wish I could be of more help. If it is of any consolation, it took me a while to figure things out.

I just noticed something! I am using Foomatic with the HPIJS driver. This is the recommended setup on my system. IIRC, I tried the Gip-Print plugin which did not seem to help.

You might want to try it with the Foomatic driver. Sorry if I am a little slow tonight ....

Lo and behold the beauty and the magic! I downloaded the newest driver from hp, installed as per RH9 instructions from that sight, told the Gimp where to look, and now it prints, but only 1/3 of the picture. So I assume I must study the Gimp more to find out how to size a pic?

Steve Cronje 09-02-2003 08:31 AM

What seems to be happening is a conflict between the paper size settings in the Gimp and the system-wide settings. I need to set my paper size system-wide, (I use KPrinter) before printing in the Gimp. otherwise the same things happen

I'll try that.
