Exclamation RH 9.0 installs but won't boot on a packard bell iGo 6000 laptop

I can install RH 9.0 on a Packard Bell iGo 6000 laptop (with a pentium-M processor) but when booting for the first time, after initialising practically everything it starts to show screens and screens of hex codes (a kernel dump). Has anyone experienced this? Do I need to recompile the kernel? Is there a way to boot a minimal system with those obscure boot options and recompile a new kernel from there? Thanks for any tips,
Regards,
Pau

That's a kernel panic. Ofhand I'd say something installed into the kernel really doesn't like some setting on your laptop. If it's a fresh install, I'd personally (but I'm a novice as well) recommend reinstalling minimally and then adding modules as you go to see what's making it panic.

HTH.

Thanx for the suggestion. I've never installed minimally, I guess this is done choosing a custom install and choosing somewhere which kernel modules you want to install. Incidentally, I could install and successfully boot the distro Mandrake 10.0 community. It works well, even though, in fact, the same hex codes appear when booting, although they are very brief and the kernel recovers. When booting RH 9.0, those screens and screens of hex codes never end.
