Remote Desktop Connection with windows xp

I have FC2 and I tried connecting to windows xp using RDC, but it comes up with messages like:

"A server with a given name cannot be found."

It works when I use RDC from another windows box though.

I tried rdp:/computername:1, vnc:/computername:1 and computername:1, but neither of them work.
I know I don't have samba enabled. May this be a reason for the RDC not working?

thanks

possibly... another possible sollution is to download realvnc... a free remote access software for linux, mac, and windows, and the protocol works with any version of the client

I agree with the last post, VNC works very well. You can try either RealVNC or TightVNC both are free and run on Unix/Linux, Windows and Mac. The Terminal Services client (TSClient) front end under Linux works great for both VNC and it works with RDP as well. If you still want to use RDP, you could also try connecting via the LAN IP address of the XP box, instead of the hostname, especially if samba is not setup.

maybe linux doesn't recognize your windows host names, that's the problem I had. Try rdp:/[computer's IP address] instead.
