redhat9 & RTL8139D 10/100 card problems

I have two computers, this one using W-XP and a second using linux redhat9. they are networked ? using a D-link wireless router and the same DSL connection. I'm a newbe to Linux and my son installed the router and a Intellinet 10/100 card that uses the RTL8139D chip. He had both computers working great and both able to connect to the internet at the same/or seperate times. the linux computer would connect to the internet on that evening only. After that as linux is loading I get a message that the "RTL8139d card does not seem to be present" and after loading when I try to connect to the internet using several browsers I get a check the address message. The linux computer is set up as a dual boot. loaded with windows98 and linux redhat9 \. It will not connect to the internet with either destro ? I purchased a D-link 10/100 card uninstalled the intellinet card, installed the D-link card per the instructions, Drivers first ( it also uses the RTL8139d chip), and apon loading linux it "saw" the new card, and loaded it. I still get the RTL8139D card "does not seem to be present" message and still can not get on the internet that computer Any help will be EAGERLY accepted
Thanks in Advance

At the command line try

service network restart

When I was using RedHat 9.0 I would lose internet connectivity every now and then and had to do that.

You can also try running kudzu, simply by typing kudzu as root and see if it finds the network card again.

*Now that I read the post again, if the card does not work in either windows or linux, your card may have just up and died.

Anybody got a suggestion ???
