RedHat 9 on 2GB HD?

Is it possible after stripping redhat down (no games, openoffice, evolution, etc...) to have a decent X (gnome) install of redhat 9?

System:
Dell Latitude LT
233MHz
64MB RAM
1MB VRAM
4GB HD
- Partition #1: 1.95GB (Windows 2000)
- Partition #2: 2.01GB Unallocated
- Partition #3: 71MB Save To Disk

I had redhat on this system with 3gb partition, but cannot remember how much space was left, i tried installing to the 2bg but the installed locks up after the 'Chose Packages' screen (i let it sit at this stage for 6 hrs once to make sure it wasnt doing anything). after i select packages and continue, it loads stage2 or whatever, then all net activity and hd activity stops, sometimes ctrl alt del reboots it, sometime i have to get a paperclip and poke the reset thing on the bottom... so i dont know if it's the FTP server im using to install from (ive tried about 5 differant servers) or something else.

thanks.

when the screen during the install that asks what type or system you would like to have
Personal Desktop
Workstation
Server
Custom

select custom, and a couple steps later it asks what packages you would like to install, with an option at the bottom saying something like manually select packages, "check" this off and go to next, then you can select the individual packages you would like to install

i cant think of any good books off hand but i will ask around

I'm not sure what the problem is, but I've had Red Hat 9 Custom X installs of about 1.3 GB with no probs - it is possible - but that was on 20 and 40 GB drives though with other Linux/Win OS's aswell - for what its worth I've never succesfully been able to install RH9 etc on Pentium 166's 233's etc with 1.6/2 GB drives - they've always locked up just after I've selected the packages and as it attempts to install (sounds similar to your scenario) - other people here seem to have had some luck with similar specs though.

I finnaly realized my problem was in trying to install to a partition instead of deleting the partition and installing to empty space.

runs decent, not great, but its workable for what i use it for.

shemjaza, i asked a friend and he has some stuff, but hes not online at the moment, so ill post them here within a couple days
