RedHat 8.0, xmms playing wavs but not mp3s
Hello Peeps,
I'm having problems getting xmms ('Audio Player') to play my mp3s. -The mp3s are stored on a Fat32 partition which is shared by Windows 2000 on my dual-boot system (Linux: RedHat 8.0, ker.ver. 2.4.18). -Access to them from Windows is fine ('winamp' does play them). -xmms does not allow me to add mp3s into the playlist (in addition to not letting me play them) -playing wav files is perfect. xmms lets me add them to the playlist and play them -some soundcard issues: 'soundcard detect' does not detect my soundcard at all (curious that system sounds and wav files still play ok). Compatibility checked out ok for model ESS 1868, however (this has been an issue for me for every distro I've tried) -I ran xmms through root, so it is not a permission problem Maybe the problem is because of the way the soundcard is setup on my computer (I haven't changed any settings since the install of RedHat). Please advise! Thank you, Marian. |
For Redhat and Fedora and a new other distro's they ship xmms without the plugin to play mp3's. So find the mp3 plugin and install it and you should be good to go!
