Post redhat 8.0 - intel desktop mobos cannot shut down automaticly


i installed rh8.0 on 2 pc. 1 pc has a intel desktop mobo i845 chipset and 2nd one has intel desktop mobo with 845g chipset. both of them dont shutdown automaticly. i have to press power button always to shutdown.

does anyone know how to solve this trouble without compiling new kernel?

Enable ACPI or APM power management. You can try 'modprobe apm' or 'modprobe acpi', since red hat probably put it in a module.

why doesnt redhat 8.0 like intel desktop mobos?? it works on other mobos with same chipset.

"modprobe acpi" nor "modprobe apm" doesnt work. it cannot find the modules called acpi nor apm.. i have installed kernel-2.4.20-28.8.rpm.. it still doesnt work. i think its time to compile a new kernel, rigth?

i found the trouble. bios doesnt support apm. i have compiled kernel-2.6.4 with acpi support. it works.
