Hi, I had the same problem until yesterday. Here is
exactly a list of thing I did.

1. Logged into LinuxQuestions.org
2. Did a search for xmms and then went here
3. Downloaded the xmms plug-in from
here
4. Rebooted the PC
5. Logged in as root
6. Went to KDE Control center
7. Clicked Sound & Multimedia -> Sound System
8. Unchecked "Autosuspend if idle for" option
9. Open XMMS (RH9 calls this Audio Player)
7. Right-click XMMS, went to Options -> Preferences -> Plug-in and chose aRts
Driver 0.4
Now, I am able to play any mp3 on my redhat box. Btw, when I installed Redhat I
chose to install everything. Also, some steps might be unnecessary, like number 1, 2 & 4, but these are EXACTLY the thing I did.

Hope it helps!

Hello,

If l write a command in the /etc/fstab then will the command be executed before the login screen comes to the screen.

Also If I write the same command from another user terminal, will the command be reflected in the root terminal during the restart.

Also can I execute a backgroud process from the /etc/fstab option before the login screen............

I had problems with audio cd's before, but they were solved by running one of those little cables (...can't remember name...) from the cdrom to the sound card's cd-in. ---Also, be sure to check out the volume control panel, it tends to start really low the first time you install, at least for me it was.

I have the same exact problem: the test sound plays perfectly, but I can't get CD Player or Xmms to play anything. The volume is turned all the way up. I have installed the xmms plugin as per the suggestion. Any hints???

Thank,

Elliott

well, instead of aRts, try and use the OSS drivers. You need to enable the MPEG audio plugin from the list of plugins.

for playing ogg files, you must enable the OGG audio plugin, if not already enabled.

All the above settings are there in the 'preferences' section. Also, double-check your sound volume settings once more..just to make sure, that none of them are muted.

Post again in case that dosent help...

amit
