Red Hat ISO file download needed for 128 ram ,200 mmxpentium processors
 

I need help to get a iso image of red hat linux that will fit on a old pc.

The bios does not let me boot from cd rom. I will need to create a boot disquette for it. That part, I have the instructions for it.

my hardware is an old pc, 128 ram with processor 200 mmx megahertz. with 6 gigs of hard drive.

I used in the past and old version of redhat that I could not find the disk anymore. It actually works good at the time. I am not sure of the version in 1999 but I think it could had been version 5 or 6 .

I look on the web site red hat under download, I could not find the free link download for the iso image file.

Can someone be nice enough to look in their library if they could not find the disk, e-mail me the image file of the whole disk. The other way would be to find a web site or ftp web site that has it. I do have high speed connections.

What is the goal here? Do you need Linux?

You might want to think about one of the BSDs, they tend to work better on very low end hardware like you have there, and last time I checked the OpenBSD installer could be booted with just a single floppy; something Linux hasn't been able to do in a very long time (the 2.6 kernel itself takes up most of a floppy).

You can try CentOS 4.8 for i586,

I had a machine of about those specs early on in my Linux forays. IIRC RH 7.2 installed o.k., but 7.3 blew up in the installer (anaconda). Just failed in different spots at different times.
You really don't want to be running that level these days.

There are light-weight distros, but you'll not get Redhat on there I reckon.

thanks, I will keep centos in mine. I was able to order and old book with cd rom of version 7.3 . That is the higher version I could use with this machine who needs a floopy disk to install because bios will not load from cdrom. Why red hat ,many ask. well for the easy instructions to follow available in online doc. also that it did work in this machine before with not to much problem on hardware comptability.

You can transplant your HDD to another PC (PII)? and install regulary, then return the HDD to original PC and attempt to boot. Keep chipset manufacturer the same (like Intel-Intel, or VIA-VIA).
