Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Hi,
I am trying to install a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3 update 3 on an Intel Itanium2 server, but during the installation process the system restarts before disk partitioning. It displays a message that says: "An error has occured - no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem" I suspect there is something wrong related to disks controllers, drivers. I tried to do CTRL+ALT+F2 to promt a shell, then I do: fdisk -l I get /dev/sda device with the correct size (36 GB) of the disk. in /dev/sda1 I have an EFI partition (300 MB) When I try to use parted for making a new partition on /dev/sda It fails with this message: Error: Device /dev/sda has dodgey geometry The same occurs with Red Hat Advanced Server 3 update 1. Can anybody help me? How can I guess which is the driver or controller that I need? What is wrong and causes the installation process abort? Thank you very much. |
Hi and welcome to LQ :D I am also moving this to the Red Hat forum as you should be able to get more directed answers there.

I'd verify your hardware is configured correctly. Get a gentoo LiveCD and use it to partition. IF that works, see if your red-hat install doesn't go through just fine.
