I've installed on my old computer Windows 98 and Red Hat 9, and they worked really well.
Now I'm on a Windows XP and I'm trying to install RH9 again in another partition, but my computer just turn off all the time I try it.
I insert the RH CD1 and after the part the instalation asks for my mouse type the computer stops to work. Anyone have an ideia what is going on?
Is this mouse a one you already used before ? What is the type of the partition you intend to use for RH9 :ntfs,fat32,fat16,...?Is your CD OK?Did you check it at least once with linuxmediacheck for example?Do you have a tool for partitioning like Partition Expert or Partition Magic?More information is needed.
Now I find the problem, but I don't know how to fix it...
The Red Hat 9 doesn't recognize my video card... I have a Gforce FX 5200 128mb DDR. On linux instalation I could install RH9 only when I typed "linux skipddc" but when the Red Hat starts appears a text box without anything written, just the options: yes and no. I have no ideia about what is that, or what is asking... but when I click yes or no anything works just appear an error messange. After that the system goes to a black screen asking for my password. When I type my password I enter on linux without any graphic.
When I was installing the process had shown me two options:
1. Nvidia Gforce Fx
2. Nvidia Gforce DDR
I had chosen the first one.
The graphical enviroment never is shown, either in instalation or in the OS.
How can I fix the problem?
Regards,
Mr. Anderson
Try it using redhat-config-xfree86. It will load all the defaults values.
If this this does't work try xf86config command, It will overwrite ur configuration file (/etc/X11/XF86Config).
How can I read the X86config file???
I'm really a newbie!!!
What can I type there to get it?
I downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run from Nvida site, and I inserted it on a CD but how can I make it run???
I wrote "mount /mnt/cdrom" but I think I had entered in CD, but I dont know how to execute the file there.
