red hat 9 laptop install - no cd?
I am still a newbie, but I have installed linux before. I did it successfully making a dual-boot on my main computer, using XP and RH 9.
Now I am trying to install it on my laptop. I have a compaq 1.5Ghz, and I have everything setup. Windows XP is already installed, I have the correct partitions ready for linux. I put in the first RH9 iso disc, and boot the machine. It read the disk, gives me the red hat install screen... I hit enter for the graphical install. Then, it loads everything. It asks for my language, and keyboard, then it asks where my red hat install is coming from... I select CDROM and it says "cannot find cdrom". Even though all of that just booted off of it! Any ideas? I need to try to find this asap! |
Welcome to LQ :)
Moving to the RedHat Forum Does it give you any other error messages? Can you choose to do an HD install? Did you checksum the iso before burning it? Cool |
No other errors at all. I have used these same CDs before... I know they work. I have the option to instll from the HD,
but I am still so new I'm not sure on how to do that... |
I changed my CD rom as the first boot option in my BIOS, and I started up the computer again...
red hat CD reads and asks to install, then it loads all of the stuff, I see somewhere in there it lists my cd drive: Compaq CD-DVD Drive/Atapi CD-ROM But there are no errors associated with that... then it loads the "loader" It asks for english and my keyoard setting. Then it says: "A red hat install cd was not found in any cd rom drives. Please insert a red hat install cd and hit OK" The only options are OK and Back |
