rdist

Hi,

I have 2 linux machines, there is a firewall between them.

I am trying to rdist a filesystem from machine A to machine B.
When i run the rdist command on Machine A I get the following message:

#rdist -o verify -f distfile
B: updating host B
B: LOCAL ERROR: Unexpected input from server: "B: Connection timed out".
B: updating of B finished
#

Please advice what i should do so that rdist can run smoothly between the 2 machines.

What are the services / ports i should enable in the firewall inorder to get rdist to work.

Howzit

1. Disable FW on both machines
2. make sure that u are able to ping each machine or can A and B speak to one another. This is impoortant as u need to see if NIC are working and cables are installed correctly
3. Not sure but I think that rdist might use RPC to communicate with each machine to do the updates almost like rsync and if that is the case then u must enable portmap do this in the following manner service portmap start
4. If this works then when u enable the FW then enable port 111 on both machines

cheers
