Question About Network Installations
I just got a computer that a company was throwing away. it is an athlon xp 2000+ with 512 mb of ram and 4 40gb hdd connected to a promise raid. the only thing that was wrong with it is that the power supply went bad. so i replaced it and everything works fine. there is one problem though, the cd rom drive does not work. i was wondering if it was possiable to do a network installation of linux from a windows xp machine. if so how would i do this?
Thanks, Andrew |
The way I've done this before is with Red Hat and used the Install from an FTP server option.
make your self a network boot disk (in RedHat/Fedora the disk images are in the 'images' (pxeboot on the FC2 disc 1) ) set up an ftp server in XP and point one to the other. |
what ftp software did you use to set up the ftp server on windows xp?

I used IIS (the built in one) though any ftp server with anonymous access should do.
