Putty Drops Connection Intermittently When Using VIM

Hi,

Recently, Putty keeps intermittently freezing and locking me out of the system (i.e. I can't stop the session and I can't re-login via ssh again until I've gone to the machine and pressed "reset").

So far, it mostly occurs when opening a file in VIM, but it does sometimes occur when using tab to auto-fill a file or directory name at the command prompt.

Has anybody else seen this behaviour before?

Regards,
Rob.

You should give much more info, OS version, any custom ssh settings, what happens if you logon from keyboard not via network and when one user is blocked can you login with other. And, do you login with regular account or with root account.

Sorry, using CentOS 5.5.

Actually, I think this was due to me trying to sort out my name server on the box.

I checked in the logs after it crashed, and I found a message stating the following:

Code:
 SSHD Killed: 3 Time(s)

 SSHD Started: 4 Time(s)

 Users logging in through sshd:
    root:
       192.168.1.201 (bahamut.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa): 4 times

 **Unmatched Entries**
 Exiting on signal 15 : 3 time(s)
 reverse mapping checking getaddrinfo for bahamut.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa failed - POSSIBLE BREAK-IN ATTEMPT! : 2 time(s)
 Bad protocol version identification ' ' from UNKNOWN : 3 time(s)
I think my naming was not quite configured right so the connection between the machines was screwing up and killing sshd.

Since I've sorted out my machine, I haven't had any problems yet, so hopefully this is resolved.

Regards,
Rob.
