the list of potential links would be enormous!!!!

try starting with

http://www.linuxberg.com
http://rpmfind.net
http://www.pbone.net

and do a google search
narrow it down to your distro or you'll end up with lots of links to stuff you can't use

I would say that for speed and security use vsftpd. Another good choice is proftpd.
