OpenSSL - replacing in RedHat 7.3

I am about to expose this computer to the 'net, and one of the outstanding issues was openssl - which even in the final updates of RedHat 7.3 is suceptible to remote execution as the 'apache' user.

I modified the openssl.spec file to allow me to be able to upgrade the old openssl package (0.9.6b) on RedHat 7.3.
  • Unpack openssl
  • Copy openssl-0.9.7d.tar.gz to /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
  • Edit openssl.spec (redhat RPM build file)...
Code:
--- old/openssl-0.9.7d/openssl.spec     Wed Mar 17 06:01:16 2004
+++ openssl-0.9.7d/openssl.spec Wed Jun 16 15:17:09 2004

I will post back when I have tested the bulk of the stuff on this system. So far, the system is running pretty stable though.

Thumbs up So far so good...

I've tested multiple key services with this so far, and everything looks good. If I run into any issues, I'll be sure to let everyone know. If you have any questions, or see any issues, post here, and I'll try to get back to you in a timely manner.
