no nautilus = no background (RH 9.0)

I use gnome, but I don't like nautilus. So I turned nautilus
off at startup, but now my background doesn't load automatically.
As soon as I do anything to set the background, it will appear, but
at login I just get a blank background. If I enable nautilus at login,
then it doesn load the background. Any ideas on how to get the
background to load with nautilus? Thanks.

Mike

I believe there is an option under the Nautilus preferences to the effect of "Use Nautilus to draw desktop". Make sure that is checked, and it may solve your problem.
