RHEL3 is not yum enabled or supported by Red Hat.

Please see: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Packag...ment/YumOnRHEL

Red Hat did not support or use yum on RHEL before version 5 was released, please read and follow the advice from the link provided. This is free and is the only way to use yum on RHEL3.

The link also applies to using yum with RHEL3 / CentOS 3;

The version of yum in CentOS 3 does not have all of the dependencies that CentOS 4 does, so ignore any on this list that do not exist in CentOS 3

You still need to engage your brain a bit and do some thinking, for example use the entos-yumconf RPM for CentOS 3.x.

wget http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos...-11.noarch.rpm

.
