Unhappy My question is about installing linux kernel patch.

After inserting the cd to the cdrom. From the root terminal i typed the following command:

#mkdir ta_install
#cd /media/cdrecorder/
#ls
#cp –R * /home/ta_install
to copy all the files from the CD to the directory /home/install

But what i was getting is

cp: overwrite '/home/ta_install/rpm/jre-6u5-linux-i586-rpm.bin ?

please is this normal or what is the meaning of this message? is this the right output from the command prompt?

Thank. am new to linux

urgent please. HELP

Best regard,

kingsley

On unix, when copying folders around, it is better to use a tool like tar, so it preserves permissions/links/etc.

To copy the content off the cd to a folder you can do it like this:
Code:
cd /media/cdrecorder
tar cf - * | (cd /home/ta_install; tar xvf -)
