MPP Enabled - Redhat Enterprise 5.2

Hello all,

Firstly, this is my first post here on LinuxQuestions and i have to admit my knowledge of linux isn't at any level of expertise. However i have come here hoping someone could point me in the right direction, as i have spent 2 days attempting to sort this issue out (see below).

I have taken over an installation of RedHat 5.2 Enterprise with a nice post it note on the server stating "MultiPath failover not working - please sort".

Overview:

Hardware is a single x3850 (IBM) with 2 HBA's installed (LP11002 - Emulex) attached to an IBM DS3200 SAN.

Linux 5.2 Enterprise has been installed, but i'm struggling to get the MPP enabled. I've rebuilt the INITRD image as per the readme.txt instructions for the HBA's but now when i amend the GRUB menu file i just cannot get Redhat to load.

At the moment i have as my MENU.LST file:

Title Red at Enterprise Linux Server (2.6.18-92.el5xen)
Root (HD0,0)
Kernel /Xen.gz-2.6.18-92.el5
Module /vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5xen ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet
initrd/mmp-2.6.18-92.el5xen.img

When i boot the server it begins to load and then shows:

Kernel Panic: Not Sync VC: Unable to mount root FS

I'm really struggling here, and am just looking for some pointers as to where i should look.

Many thanks for any help given.

Cheers,

Steve

Steve

Part of your RH subscription includes support. This is one of those times that it would be best to use that support.

Thanks - just wanted to say that i sorted it in the end.

Changed the INITRD entry to the below to the MENU.LST file:

Module /mpp-2.6.18-92.el5xen.img

And then disabled the service "MULTIPATHD".

Worked a treat and automatic failover is now working.

Cheers.
