mozilla 1.4 cutting out

I have rh8 with mozilla 1.4 - when I go to distrowatch.com or do a search in google my browser dies and I'm left looking at the desktop. I am dual booted with win 2000 +mozilla 1.4 but this doesn't happen in win 2000 ??

Try running mozilla from a terminal window; perhaps it will spit out some errors before it dies. Post any errors it gives. Maybe check out /var/log/messages right after it crashes, also, to see if there's anything printed there.

also see what happens if you remove the java plugin from the plugin directory

It seems Mozilla 1.4 is picky about its java plugin and will disappear whenever it tries to display a web page requiring it and it has the wrong one.
