monitor won't work

I installed red hat 9 on my computer. I haven't been able to run it yet. After install it goes to the startup, and after it runs it all it starts up firstboot, but when it loads up my screen goes blank and my monitor goes off like the video card has stopped sending input -- like I just turned off my comp. I don't knwo what the deal is... please help!

If you press alt, ctrl and f6 you should get a command prompt. Login as root and run xf86config.

I can't... it won't even let me get to the command prompt at all. it loads up everything, but then when it would go to the gui I lose all video feed to my monitor

When the screen gooes blank, press ctrl-alt-F2. This should give you a text login screen. Than you need to open the XF86Config file in a text editor like emacs. The file is located /etc/X11/XF86Config. When viewing this file there is a section for monitor, you need to make sure the setting are exact to your monitor specifications. Let me know what happens, we can troubleshoot more if you get lost. :-)
