modprobe sb problem after instal of lame
To listen to sounds, I first need to modprobe sb to load the sound blaster module. That worked fine, until I installed lame. Now, when I modprobe sb, I get an error stating init_module: no such device... insmod sb failed. I can attach the exact message if it helps.
I'm using Red Hat 9, and I installed lame.3.93.1. The kernel startup log shows the OS still sees the sound card as isapnp: Card CS4236B Audio. Does anyone have a suggestion (short of reinstalling RH9) on what I can try to fix this? Any suggestions would be appreciated. |
Never mind. I got ALSA to work... thanks to information found at the following link: http://www.levien.com/tp600.html.

That link is no longer good. Got another?

The page is actually there... the link in my post grabbed the trailing period.
Try http://www.levien.com/tp600.html without the '.' after html. Sorry for the typo. |
lame has nothing to do with your kernel sound driver problems at all.
Though, you didn't tell where you've got lame 3.93.1 from or what you've done to install it. A prebuilt package like offered by Fedora ( http://www.fedora.us ) does not affect your sound driver. |
