I recently set up my server, I installed redhat linux 9 with all the server packages and no graphical user interface.
When I start up the server and it gets to the login screen i type root and then it tells me this:
Incorrectly built binary which accesses errno, h_errno or _res directly. Needs to be fixed.
After it gives me the error it prompts for the password and lets me login, the error does not effect the performance of the server but it is an error and I would like it to go away.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, josh89
Hi there! I cant help you in your problem, sorry, but I noticed that you posted your machinesdns name. Lets suppose h_errno is an error that is related to a 2.4 a known 2.4.18 kernel exploit that was corrected in the 2.4.22 kernel, and that is considered a big security hole. You wouldnt want the whole internet to know your server is vulnerable. DNS names and IP addresses are normally not necesary to understand the problem. Im not saying that h_errno has anything to do with an exploit, it was just an example!
Hi! Just wanted to clarify that I dont know if your error has anything to do with the kernel itself! But knowing how to compile a kernel is advisable. You can start here: http://www.linuxdocs.org/HOWTOs/Kernel-HOWTO.html
Check your distros documentation, they normally distribute newer kernels with patches and small modifications for your distro
well im not sure, i didnt realize i enabled that. Cant i turn it off by typing ntsysv ? I chose all server packages in standard redhat 9 insallation, i dont know the exact name of the mail server. Thanks
