log in problem

Hi all,

I am using redhat 9 and I got a problem for log in :

when I login in graphic mode, the kernel tell me it cannot find
"CPE00a00cc1aa62-CM000a730bbf2" and suggest me add that in HOSTS.

and

when if I login thru PUTTY, the prompt is :
[loginID@CPE00a00cc1aa62-CM000a73abbf2]

This does not happen at the beginning after the fresh installed.

what did I do wrong?

Hello:

the problem is that the hostname of your mahcine was changed to "CPE00a00cc1aa62-CM000a730bbf2" . You can change your hostname to whatever you want by using the 'hostname' command (check out the man pages of hostname if your curious). You can also edit the /etc/hosts file and change "CPE...bbf2" to whatever you want. Both of those suggestions require you to be logged in as root, though.

for info on 'hostname':

$ man hostname

for changing hostname to 'blue' for example:

# hostname blue
