local host login ?


I have installed Red Hat 7 on a Compaq Presario 1621
I am at a screen that says:
Red Hat Linux Release 7.0 (Guinness)
Kernel 2.2.16-22 on an i586

Local host login:

I have tried all of the password account name info I entered plus:
Useradd my name
Passwd my name
Startx
Message says login incorrect
Nothing works. I need help.

When u were doing the installation, u would have had to specify the root passwd. So login using that passwd.

Caution: U will be root.

So the first thing u shud do is to create another user (say with ur name) using the useradd command (man useradd). Then logout and login using the new user you created.

In otherwords type root at the login and you will be asked for a password

thanks
however I have typed my root password and all the other info I entered at installation and still get login incorrect

Careful: logins are case sensitive. Both username and password. If you don't remember your root password (username: root) then you may be, as we say, up the creek without a paddle.
