First verify that this problem exists in other directories.
I think the first thing to check is how the ls command is aliased. If you enter the 'alias' command by itself, it will print out all of the defined aliases. Also, check the $LSOPTIONS
variable. This variable contains your default options for the LS command ( such as --color=auto ). Make sure that the options don't contain the ls command itself, but just options for the command.
