lcd display issues with rh install

im attempting to dual boot an xp / rh box and im getting odd behavior from my monitor. Ive got a Samsung SyncMaster 213T lcd monitor which doesnt seem to be recognized at all by the RedHat version im attempting to use. (RH Enterprise WS Version 3). During the installation it is necessary for me to utilize text mode only and i am only able to boot in to text mode. any sort of x server activity puts my monitor in to standby mode from which i am unable to awaken it outside of going back in to text mode.

after some scratching and looking around i looked up the factory horizontal and vertical refresh rates and so on and manually entered them in the XF86conf file however this doesnt seem to have much affect. i also manually entered the modeline which doesnt seem to do much for me either.

so i was wondering if any one had any input. (or preferably solutions)

howzit

when u reboot make sure system and lands up in the text mode to configure the X settings use redhat-config-xfree86. Try using the standard monitor and see if u able to startx the X server from the cmd prompt. Once ure system is able to boot into GUI mode then u will gradually bump up the res to the setting u want. Make sure u choose the correct screen card settings etc

cheers

hey aqoliveira,

i tried what you suggested and here are the results:
i booted in to text mode successfully however when i ran the command redhat-config-xfree86 it put the monitor in to standby mode from which i was able to recover once but the second time i attempted it i was unable to recover and had to reboot.

my impression is that the mechanism that is attempting to discover the monitor is returning some sort of erroneous values or nothing at all. this leads me to believe that i may have to manually enter these settings which ive attempted but have yet to see any success from that course of action.

any other ideas ?

thanks
