Kernel nuking instructions.....
Been running RedHat for just about a month now. In that time, up2date has
updated my kernel 2 times. Since my cpu is a HT 2.4, each kernel update puts 2 versions out there. (smp and reg.) So now I got 6 copies of the kernel on my boot menu and drive, when I only need 1 or 2 of em. Seems like each one has files scattered all over the place. Anybody got a list of what files and directories to delete in order to lose some of these stale kernels ? Thanks |
Not sure about redhat, but probably kernels are distributed as rpm packages, so the easiest way to remove a kernel would be uninstalling the package in question (that is how we do it in debian world).
If not so, kernel is split into /boot/*-kernelversion and to /lib/modules/kernelversion/, maybe others. |
Howzit
to remove kernels that where installed via up2date then use this cmd which will remove kernel as well as menu entries rpm -e kernel-<kernel version>. chow |
