Java 1.4.2.X on RHEL 3 Minimal install

I'm trying to get a Sun 1.4.2_04 JVM to run on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 with the Minimal install. I install the JVM then do a:

java -version

and all that is output is

Segmentation fault.

Has anyone seen this and if so, does anyone know of a fix? This JVM will run on a Red Hat 9 box, a Fedora 3 box, and on a full install of RHES 3. I need it to run on the minimal install of RHES 3. Any hints would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony
