Invalid Dependencies Report By Modprobe (Redhat 9)
We seem to have corruption on our system, probably due to multiple power failures that cycled up and down over the weekend.
We can't mount smbfs filesystems. When I grep '/var/log/messages' for 'modprobe' it reports multiple 'invalid dependencies' relating to smbfs and others (char majors, xp0, freesmbfs, etc). Many report these out of /lib/modules/2.4.20-8smp/kernel. Question: How can I recover from this corruption? |
Well you could at least bring your system current the 2.4.20-8 kernel that came with RHL9 has been updated over the years. The current RHL9 kernel is;
kernel-smp-2.4.20-43.9.legacy.i686.rpm 01-May-2005 13:18 14M this and the many other updates should fix your problems. Visit http://www.fedoralegacy.org/download/ to download/install apt or yum to assist you with this task. |
