Hi

i installed rhel6 in my virtual machine. I thought the installations steps are same as rhel5 , so installed it without noticing that to enable windows X environment i had to enable a checkbox while installing , after searching the internet i tried these
#startx
#startX
also tried
#yum groupinstall "Desktop""X Windows Environment"
#yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment"

while all the packages of the DVD (inside packages) are copied and kept in /mnt/spac directory
around 3200+ packages inside the directory

tried another step after much frustration
#yum install gnome*
said yes to install 325 packages
that too didn't worked

nothing worked
someone please provide the solution

reinstalling might be a bit easier , seeing as this is a very new install

But double check the name of the group from
you should see
" General Purpose Desktop " and "Desktop"

for a basic gnome install
use "General Purpose Desktop" for everything
and that should pull everything that is needed from the red hat RHN repo
