Install Problem with Anaconda on RedHat 7.3 (on p166 with 32Mb ram)

I need to install linux rh 7.3 on my pentium 166Mhz with 32Mb of ram. The system hangs when anaconda is loading.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

where dows it hang in what stage?

try installing in text mode, or else try linux noprobe which will allow you to choose what HW u want to install.

If the hardware is compaq and there is an on board nic, disable it in the bios before trying the install

Thanks.

I will test these options.

Hey Cyb3rPr0

I have somewhat the same problem. I am trying to upgrade my Redhat 7.3 to Fedora Core 2. Anaconda starts and goes through a couple of stages, "finding packages to upgrade", "resolving dependencies", etc... then after a while it hangs, still on CD1. I have a Compaq Deskpro 2000 (Pentium 166MHz, 128MB), the only extra gear I have installed is a Realtek NIC.

Did you manage to solve the problem yet?

In order to solve the problem I followed the following steps:

1- init the first CD
2- when prompt (asking what you want to do) type any of this options:

linux noprobe (the best option when you have some problematic hardware)
linux expert (enter expert mode, in some cases it solve the problem)
nofb (NO Frame buffer)
text noprobe (the last opportunity, it would have to work)

Bye.
